The book

Cosmos

Cosmos is a science fiction series about what humanity could actually become if it solved its real constraints — and what cosmic-scale power does to the person made to carry it. Book One opens in 2028, when a man digging in the Mongolian desert finds something that isn't his, and spends the next sixty years using it to take apart the conditions that manufacture most human suffering. Energy first, then materials, then everything built on top of them. He is not a hero. He builds a way to remove himself from power before he starts, and he fails nearly every person who matters to him along the way. Later books follow him and the two brothers he makes — deliberately, as different versions of himself — down opposite roads across thirty thousand years, and the book never tells you which road was right. You hold the comparison neither of them can.

It is not a utopia. It's extrapolation, and it says so on the page: people stay tribal, and no amount of solved energy fixes that. The argument is narrower — solve the physical constraints and the unnecessary portion of human suffering dissolves, leaving the part that was never going away. Love, loss, mortality, the work of making meaning. Where the science is real the book uses the real science: closed-loop life support, biosphere restoration, materials work extrapolated from what's happening in labs right now. There is exactly one deliberately magical element and the book marks it as such rather than dressing it up as physics. The aliens stay alien. And running underneath all of it is an argument with Asimov about whether an artificial mind exists for us or with us — I think it's the second, and the series is the long case for it.

Book One releases whole, when it's finished — not chapter by chapter. The dev log is where the process lives in the meantime: how a character actually gets built, what the research turned up, what I got wrong.

There'll be a post. There is no mailing list yet and no pre-order — when either exists it will appear here first, and the dev log feed is the reliable way to catch it.
